Part 107 requirements and how to schedule the test

Short answer

To take the Part 107 knowledge test you must be at least 16, able to read, speak, write and understand English, and in a physical and mental condition to fly safely. Get an FAA Tracking Number through IACRA, schedule the "Unmanned Aircraft General – Small (UAG)" test at an FAA-approved Knowledge Testing Center, bring government photo ID, and after passing complete the IACRA application for the Remote Pilot Certificate.

Eligibility (FAA)

  1. At least 16 years old.
  2. Able to read, speak, write and understand English.
  3. In a physical and mental condition to safely operate a drone.

Steps

  1. Create an IACRA profile to obtain an FAA Tracking Number (FTN).
  2. Schedule the UAG test at an FAA-approved Knowledge Testing Center; the test vendor charges a fee set by the vendor, not the FAA.
  3. Bring government-issued photo ID to the test.
  4. Pass (70%). Your Airman Knowledge Test Report is valid for the certificate application.
  5. Complete FAA Form 8710-13 in IACRA; the certificate is issued after the TSA check.
  6. Every 24 calendar months complete the free online recurrent training.

Existing Part 61 pilots

Certificated pilots with a current flight review can instead complete the free online Part 107 initial training course rather than the knowledge test; see the FAA page for the current path.
